Ride and reminders!

• Don't forget - registration for the 2013 Tour of the Battenkill opens tonight, November 15, at 7 p.m. This event can fill up in mere hours, so don't procrastinate if you are interested!
• On Saturday, November 17, 2012, we're going to Lewis Morris for a mountain bike ride. Meet us at the parking lot down by Sunrise Lake at 2 p.m., and we'll head out for a nice late fall ride. It's going to be in the low 50's and sunny, so dress appropriately!
• Also, don't forget - it's big game (gun hunting) season starting this Saturday in many of the New York State parks and forests. Please make sure to check out the websites of where you are going to visit before heading out - better to be safe than sorry!

Planning ahead for some epic road rides!

A little planning ahead for all you road bike enthusiasts out there - 

• March 28 - a message from TTC friend and sponsor Larry Towner! 

Some of the ProPower Coaching group are planning a tentative trip up to Battenkill on Wed., March 28 for a pre-ride of the Battenkill race course. Planning on an early start. If you are racing Battenkill, or if you've heard about it and are interested in checking out the course for future reference, send me an email to: larry@propowercoaching.com . We won't be doing a hard pace but it is 60 plus hilly miles with a lot of dirt sections so be forewarned!  This should be considered an advanced level ride. As we get closer I'll firm things up and we can arrange carpooling.

• TTC member Angela has registered for the 2012 NJ Gran Fondo, September 9, 2012, and Team Town Cycle now is an official "team" for the Fondo! Use this code for 20%  of your registration for the Fondo - TTCGFNJ2012  - and make sure you pick Team Town Cycle for your team! Yes, it's more than a few months off, but it's a great event - hopefully no hurricanes will cause any re-scheduling issues this year! Register today at www.active.com.

Branchbrook Park Spring Training Series

Hey everyone, don't forget that this Saturday is the 2nd of the Branchbrook Park Spring Training Series races! Online registration closes tonight at midnight, but you can register onsite on Saturday if you want - for an additional fee, of course. Great way to shake the cobwebs off and get rolling on a new season! Last week new Team Town Cycle race team member Ken Griffin hung with the the big boys and stayed with the lead group in the 45+ class - come check out how he and the rest of Team Town Cycle does this weekend!

Also don't forget that the Augusta Training Series starts on March 15th at the Augusta Fairgrounds - that's this Tuesday! Even if you are not a big road racer, this is a great training ride. It's every Tuesday from now until July 12th (see this page for exact times and info), and is a great way to get big group riding experience as well as a super workout in a really scenic location. 

Hell of Hunterdon road race on March 26!

For those of you looking for an early season challenge, look no farther than the Hell of Hunterdon, March 26. The race consisted of 76 miles of mixed terrain roads - perfect warm-up for anyone planning on doing the Tour of the Battenkill! Find more details and online registration here at BikeReg. Pre-registration closes on March 12th. Late registration will be available for an additional $10 until field limit size is reached. 

Bear Mountain Spring Classic Registration is open!

Registration for one of the "spring classics" in the Northeast, the Bear Mountain Spring Classic, is open on BikeReg. More info can be found at CRCA's website. This race fills up quickly, so if you are interested, register now! A number of club members have done this race in the past - if you want to know more about it, let us know - we'll hook you up!

Attention all Team Town Cycle racers!

Attention all racers - or those who are interested in racing! Although race season seems like a long way off, eventually the snow will melt (Right? Please? RIGHT????), and we'll be back on our bikes before we know it. In the meantime, we're making plans for the upcoming race season, and we want to include you all in our plans!

Join us on this Thursday evening, February 10, at 7 p.m. at Town Cycle, and we'll talk about how the club will be working to support you and your goals for this season and beyond. We'll talk training, kits, race schedules, racer incentives, and more. Road racing, mountain bike racing, cyclocross - we'll cover it all!

Rides and reminders!

Some quick mid-week reminders for you:

• Tonight is the first I Dig Tuesdays trail maintenance session for the summer. Meet us at the Jungle Habitat gates at 5:45 p.m., and bring gloves, water and bug spray - we'll work until 8 p.m. or so!
• The Augusta Training series is still going on Tuesday evenings at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ - great workout and lots of fun! More info at http://www.skylandscycling.com/fairgrounds10/
• Tomorrow is our weekly Wednesday night Ladies Ride on Clinton Road. Meet us at the old Village Square Inn parking lot at 6 p.m. Rain cancels!
• Wednesday we'll have a mountain bike ride in Jungle Habitat leaving from Town Cycle at 6 p.m. It'll be a 2 hour, moderately paced ride. We'll ride in a light rain - anything more than that, check in at the shop.

Overdue Kudos!

A few race race results we need to acknowledge ...

Tour of the Battenkill - Three of Team Town Cycle's road racers braved the cold and the wind to ride the 62 miles of both dirt and paved roads (generously called "farm roads"!) to represent us well in this New York State spring classic! They had great results for their first year - out of 102 starters in their class, Chris Walsh finished 65th, with a time of 3:28:21, BJ Kisch and Chris Byrnes finished 69th and 70th respectively, with a time of 3:31:02. Nice going, guys!

Singlespeedapalooza - Three Team Town Cycle members braved the elements for this 2 lap, 25 mile long epic in the woods. Mud, rain, full flights of stairs, and did we mention mud? - were just some of the challenges faced by our racers in this event just for those crazy enough to ride a singlespeed through the ups and downs of of Stewart State Forest. Matt Kuchavik, fashionable in his garbage bag rain gear, had a great day, finishing with a time of 2:23:39 for 7th place in the Sport/NJ and South category. Dillon Van Wart, who won a prize for youngest finisher, finished with a malfunctioning seatpost and a time of 2:52:38 for 38th in the Sport/NJ and South category. David Van Wart, our intrepid club president, finished 30th in the Open Men category with a time of 2:17:40.

Congratulations to all of our racers, and thanks for representing Team Town Cycle so well!

If you are talented enough to take pictures and ride, send them to us - we're happy to include them in our photo pool! Extra points if it involves embarrassing wardrobe choices or non-injury related crashes!

Junior Development Skills Clinic

Team Somerset will be hosting for the second straight year a Junior Development Skills Clinic. It will be Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater. This is a great event for those kids that are new to racing this season or did limited racing last season. While the clinic is oriented more towards the newcomer than the experienced racer, there will be something for everyone. There will be a demonstration on how to change a flat tire, giveways, lunch etc. This is a great refresher for kids who forgot what they learned last year. Or have your kids bring a friend who is interested in the sport! It's a fun event for all.

The cost will be $35 for non-licensed riders and $25 for licensed riders.

On the road again!

A ride for those of you looking to get re-acquainted with your road bike! Let's meet Sunday morning at Town Cycle, be ready to ride at 9 a.m. Remember to be considerate of those attending church next door! We'll do 25-35 miles, moderate pace. It'll be a chance to clear out the cobwebs and get moving again!

Good luck to our road racing contingent going to Branchbrook Saturday morning - and don't forget the Augusta training series continues on Tuesdays up at the Sussex County Fairgrounds! All details for both series are on our calendar.

Lots of our club members are active in the Campmor H2H mountain bike race series, but that's not the only show in town. Here's a list of some races, on the road, mountain bike and going downhill, that some of our team will be participating in this year. Road racing news and notes!

This past Saturday was the first race of the Branchbrook Spring Training Series in Newark, NJ. Team Town Cycle braved the early start times (7:15 a.m.!!!) and made their season debut in style, with our own Jason Grossi finishing 12th in the Cat 4/5 race, and Matt Kuchavik and BJ Kisch coming through with flying colors! UPDATE - Branchbroook canceled for Saturday, March 13 because of flooding concerns! Join them next Saturday!
