Juniors in the Jungle Rocked!

Wow, what a day! Thanks to all of you who came out and raced and cheered and supported us at our first annual Juniors in the Jungle Kids Race at Jungle Habitat on Sat. The weather was perfect, and we had almost 80 racers participate! Everyone of our racers were great sports, from our brave warriors with training wheels to our gravity friends and our soon-to-be experts.

Race results are posted on the sidebar on the left, for those who like to keep track! We'll have pictures up shortly.

There were many people who made this day possible. We'd definitely like to thank the West Milford Ambulance Squad for volunteering their time, and Ringwood State Park for allowing us to hold our event at this great site. We'd also like to thank some of our sponsors - in particular Town Cycle, Trek, and ResQtags for donating prizes. Also thanks to all of our club sponsors, including FX Solutions, ACD Security, Komodo Training, Paintland, Jim Weinbrect Construction, The Hidden Valley Club, and Precision Sprinklers. Special thanks to James Wilbur who acted as our USA Cycling official, and of course, all the members of Team Town Cycle who came out and volunteered their time and talents to make this a success!

Please don't forget the second race in the series, which is on May 9th, at Kittatinny State Park in Andover. For more information, see http://www.teambulldog.com/ . Also for those riders 10+, join us on September 27, 2009 for Race #7 in the Campmor H2H series, the Rumble in the Jungle. Go to http://www.teamtowncycle.com/ and click on the "Races" tab for more info.

We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, thanks again for coming out, and we hope we'll see you all again next year!

Juniors in the Jungle Reminder and Weekend Rides

It's going to be a beautiful weekend, so don't forget to join us for our 1st annual Juniors in the Jungle Kids Race at Jungle Habitat on Sat., April 25th. Links to the flyers with all the information are on the side bar. We have a race for all kids from kindergarten through high school, so grab your favorite kids and come join us!

Of course, we can't let the kids have all the fun, so here is our club ride schedule for the weekend.

Saturday…following the First Annual Juniors in the Jungle Race, there will be a Team Town Cycle Club road ride from Town Cycle parking lot leaving at 3:30. The ride will loop around Greenwood Lake counterclockwise and head up Greenwood lake Turnpike. We will continue left down Clinton Road and come back into town on Union Valley Road.

Sunday-Ride will be a Team Town Cycle Club Mtb. Ride from the Kahl’s house immediately following the trail clean-up. Trail clean-up begins at 9:00. We hope to be riding by 1:00 but the start time will depend on how many people are able to attend the clean-up and if we get the trails ready. The sooner we get the trails cleaned up, the sooner we can start Monday night rides! Contact Heather Kahl at heatherk@acdsecurity.com to RSVP and for directions if you are unsure.

Hope to see you out there!

Weekend Rides

The weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend, so we hope you'll be able to join us for a few rides!

Saturday - Meet/Leave from Town Cycle at 10:00 a.m. for a road ride. Loop will be Ridge Road to West Brook, Stone Town Road, counterclockwise around Greenwood Lake and back to the shop. Ride time should be 2-2.5 hours long. Some climbing, intermediate road/ride pace. If you are driving to the shop, please park in the church parking lot.

Sunday – Trail build at Jungle Habitat – meet 8:45 a.m, leave 9 a.m. from parking lot. Bring something to eat and drink and cycling gear - after the trail build we’ll do a mountain bike ride. The group will split into two sections- one section will be led by Dave Van Wart to preview the different courses and pre-ride the race courses for our Juniors in the Jungle race next Saturday. Parents or guardians welcome. This would also be a good introductory ride for new riders of any age. The second section will be an intermediate + ride around the park for about 2-2.5 hours. Both rides will begin from the parking area by the main gates at 12:30.

Any questions, give us a shout!

For everyone who is interested in having their kids pre-ride the course for next Saturday's Juniors in the Jungle race, we will be organizing a pre-ride on Sunday, April 19. We will meet in the parking lot at 12:30 p.m. (after our trail work day - for any one who is interested!), and we'll take all who are interested on a ride of the different laps.

Also, here are the links for the maps for the different age groups - each map has a highlighted section for the age appropriate lap. Please note that the location of Mountain Circle Court as shown on the maps is incorrect.

Easter weekend rides

Our schedule is going to be a little lighter this weekend - we know many of you will be spending time with family and friends, celebrating all the spring holidays! Here's our schedule for rides for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, April 11 join us at Ringwood State Park, Parking Lot C at 12 p.m. for a mountain bike ride. If the trails are too wet, our ride will consist of the fire road climbs in the park. This is a good opportunity for different ride levels to separate on the climb and then group back with the main crew. Ride time will be 1.5 - 2 hours.

Sunday, April 12, we will gather for a 9 a.m. road ride. Meet at the Town Cycle parking lot. Please remember to be considerate of the churchgoers - it's Easter Sunday, so there will be more people than usual there. Our ride will be around Greenwood Lake in the clockwise direction (for a change of pace!) and some climbing. Ride time will be approximately 2 hours.

We hope to see you there, and that you enjoy your holiday weekend - whatever holiday you celebrate!

More Info about Juniors in the Jungle Kids Race

We've been getting lots of questions about our kids race, which is great! We're thrilled so many people are interested. The question we get asked the most is - what is the course? Can I get a map so I can pre-ride it with my kids? The answer is - yes! Soon! The course was finalized over the weekend, we are working on a map, and in the next day or so, it will be available over on the side bar by the flyers for the race. In addition, we're hoping that next Sunday, April 19, will be a "pre-ride" day for all who are interested. We are still hashing out the details on that, so check back in a few days for the scoop!

And keep those entries coming!

It's Alive!

Woohoo - the new website is up! Some formatting is being tweaked, and we still have to add a few items, but now there is one easy place to find all of our information. Make sure you change any of your bookmarks to read http://www.teamtowncycle.com/ - not the blogspot address. We will continue to use the blog as we are now - for ride info, announcements, etc. - you'll just be able to get to it from the main page.

A big kudos goes out to our blog designer, Kathleen Sinnott at http://www.sinnottsolutions.com/ - she's the best!

Keep checking back for more good stuff!

Road Ride, Sunday, April 5th

Check out our calendar on the sidebar for more info on our road ride set for Sunday, April 5th, 9 a.m, meeting at Town Cycle. This is a longer road ride…around Greenwood Lake on the East Shore Drive. There will be two ride lengths on this trip. After we get into Greenwood Lake, we will climb over Sterling Forest and down into the Sloatsburg area. The longer group ride will continue for one to two hours of more fun up into Harriman State Park where there will be some climbing. The shorter ride will come back into West Milford through Sloatsburg, and up Margaret King Blvd.

The longer ride will be 3-4 hours…the shorter ride will be 2-3 hours. Bring plenty of water, food, and a few dollars of “anti-bonk” prevention, so you can buy a coke or Gatorade before it’s too late. The longer ride will be geared to our long distance riders and race team members, the shorter ride will be an intermediate pace. The ride will stay together at the same pace until the break-off point as we come down Sterling Forest.

Email us if you have any questions - hope to see you all there!

Trail Build and Ride, Sat., April 4th

Just a reminder that we are having our Trail Build date at Jungle Habitat on Sat., April 4th, meeting at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot. You bring the work gloves, we'll bring the tools. We'll follow our trail work with a ride, starting at 12:30. If you've never built a trail and ridden it, come see what it is all about. You would be surprised at how much planning and man-power goes into one mile of single track trail.

Of course, if you can't join us for the trail build, you're still more than welcome to come for the ride - although we can't promise we won't abuse you a bit!
