Austin - this one is for you!

Last Saturday, on August 21, the Hilltop Conservancy, in association with JORBA, held their first annual Hilltop Grasshopper Kids Race in North Caldwell. The weather was perfect, and the Hilltop Team put together a great course and event!

Team Town Cycle was well represented, as you would expect! Taking second place in the Boys 2nd-3rd grade class was our own Austinator - Austin Moskowitz! He really put down a great lap and showed everyone how it was done! Way to go Austin!!!

In the very large and competitive Boys 6-8th grade class, our own Pieter Hoek survived a starting line pile-up and battled back through four long laps to come in seventh! Great job Pieter!!

And finally, in the 4th-5th grade Girls race, the lovely Delia Van Wart gave some of the boys a run for their money, and laid down 3 great laps to win her race!

Great job by everyone, and thanks again to Geordie and his team of volunteers at the Hilltop Conservancy, and Jeff Mergler at JORBA for organizing the day. And Austin - see? You're on the blog, buddy!!

Tuesday and Wednesday reminders!

We have been so fortunate to have a great group of volunteers come out this summer - our gratitude to all of you! Join us for our last Tuesday night session for the year by meeting us at the gate for Jungle Habitat at 5:45 p.m. We'll bring the tools - you bring gloves, water, bug repellent, and the muscle!
  • Tomorrow night is our Ladies Night road ride on Clinton Road. Remember - our start time is now 5:45 p.m., as we are chasing daylight! Meet us, as usual, at the old Village Square Inn Parking lot on Route 23 in Newfoundland. These nights are also dwindling, so come out and join us before they are over for the year.
Later today we'll have an announcement about our Kingdom Trails trip, so stay tuned!

Tuesday Night Beginners Mountain Bike Rides

Well, we're going to wrap up the I Dig Tuesday trail work nights at Jungle Habitat next week, so what will we do with our Tuesday nights now? How about a beginners mountain ride? Sound good? OK, let's do it!

Our favorite JORBA comrade Jeff Mergler will team up with Team Town Cycle to lead a beginners ride Tuesday evenings at Jungle Habitat, starting on September 7. We'll meet at the Jungle Habitat gate 5:30 p.m., with a goal to roll out no later than 6 p.m. He'll keep the rides going as long as we have some light to ride by, which won't be long - so don't put off joining us! Spread the word - we love to have new faces on our rides!

Questions? You know what to do - info@teamtowncycle.com. Hope you'll be able to join us!

  3. King of the Mountain ride!! Leaving Town Cycle at 9 a.m. - we don't wait for stragglers! We will modify our Classic KOM route (Warwick, Mt. Peter, Sterling Forest) so that we don't get caught up in the Ren Fair madness!

Weekend fun!

The weather is shaping up for a lovely weekend - here's what's in store for Team Town Cycle!

  • Friday, August 20 - the traditional Friday night Clinton Road road ride! As the days get shorter, the season for this ride will be ending soon, so get in on it while you can! Meet us at 6 p.m. at the old Village Square Inn parking lot on Route 23 in Newfoundland, we'll do our usual roll-out from there. Customize this ride for your needs - add the loop around Upper Greenwood Lake or not - your choice!
  • Saturday, August 21 - something for the kids! Our friends at JORBA and Hilltop Conservancy are holding Essex County's first ever kids only mountain bike race! Jeff and Geordie have jumped a lot of hurdles to make this happen, so please let's show them some support and check their race out on Saturday, August 21 in North Caldwell. You can find more details at www.jorba.org, or read all about it in their flyer here . Our sport needs more events to help nurture the next generation of cyclists, and here is another great opportunity to get your kids out there and have some fun!
  • Sunday, August 21 - the fifth installment of our King of the Mountain series! BJ Kisch has put together some terrific routes for these rides - if you're not joining us, you're missing out on some great rides! There are premiums for each climb, as well as points towards a series prize, so come on out! You don't need to participate in all of the rides in order to join us - jump in any time! In addition, BJ has designated the last ride in the series (September 26) will have double points, so you can still wind up with a nice overall finish!
Have questions, or maybe you have a ride you want us to list? Find us at info@teamtowncycle.com - and have a great weekend!!

Rumble in the Jungle News!

It's already August - which means September and our very own Campmor H2H series Rumble in the Jungle race is just around the corner! Even more exciting is the news that our Jungle Habitat race will be the New Jersey State Mountain Bike Championship race for 2010! Team Bulldog and Kittatinny Valley State Park has been the home of the Championship race for several years now, and as always, they have done a spectacular job. For the next two years, they have graciously allowed the Championship to go "on tour" - and this year it's our turn! We are super excited, and are already busy preparing for the big day.

For those of you who need more details - mark your calendars for September 19, 2010, and check out the flyer here! There is also a link on the left sidebar of the blog, and on Team Town Cycle's "Races" page. Don't forget - using BikeReg.com to register before the event will save you $10 over registering on the day of the race, so hustle over there, sign up, and start riding - it'll be here before you know it!
