Additional weekend ride - Saturday, August 7.
Thanks to Jason for stepping up with an additional ride for the weekend! He'll be leading an approximately 40 mile road ride on Saturday, August 7, at 8 a.m. Meet him at the corner of Holland Mountain Road and Route 23, at the old Wachovia Bank parking lot, for an intermediate paced ride. Weather should be perfect for a nice road ride - sunny, low humidity, reasonable temps - a real gift this summer! If you have any questions, you can ask us here, or check in with Jason directly at jason_grossi@yahoo.com .

New Paltz 2010 - with pictures!

Last weekend was our annual New Paltz ride, and boy, was it hot!! Despite it being about the hottest day of the year, we had a good, brave group of people join us. The majority of the group did the round trip, which is good ride on any day, never mind on a 100 degree day, so kudos and thanks to all who came out and joined us - and survived!
Thanks also to our photographers Vicki VanZetta, Rich Vandenbos and BJ Kisch - here are a few photos of our day - enjoy!

July 10 NYC ride addendum
Just a note to say in case of rain, we will cancel tomorrow's NYC Bridges ride.
Yes, we need the rain, but could it just wait until later tomorrow afternoon? Thanks, Universe!

Rides for July 8-11, 2010
Has it been hot or what? Hope you are all keeping reasonably cool! The heat is supposed to start easing over the next few days, so here are a bunch of rides for you - take your pick!!
- Thursday, July 8 - mountain bike ride at Kittatinny Valley State Park in Andover. We'll pre-ride the race course for Sunday's Campmor H2H Race, The Bulldog Rump. Meet in the parking lot on Goodale Rd. at 5:45 p.m. - we'll be wheels down by 6 p.m.
- Friday, July 9 - the fabulous and famous Friday night ride on Clinton Road! Meet us at 6 p.m. at the old Village Square Inn parking lot. For those who want an easier start or shorter route, consider parking at the end of Van Orden Rd. and jumping in there! (Please make sure you have a NWCDC parking permit though - about $10 and available from the office on Echo Lake Road.)
- Saturday, July 10 - our NYC road ride! We will meet at KC's Bagels on Route 23 South in Pompton Plains at 7:15 a.m. We'll be parking at the Fort Lee Historic Park ($5), take the GWB over the Hudson, ride down to Times Square, down Broadway, around Greenwich Village, over to Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn. We'll then head over to the West Side back up to the George Washington Bridge. We should return back to our cars hopefully between 1 and 2 p.m.
- Sunday, July 11 - meet us at Town Cycle at 9 a.m. for a road ride. Route can be found here - 9am & the following link is the route we will be doing: http://www.mapmyrun.
com/view_route?r= . Please bring plenty of water and food!533127852245798356

Time for some day trips!
School will soon be out, and judging from the heat last week, summer will soon be here to stay! Now is the perfect time to plan a few great longer one day and destination rides. We've got three different ones for you - here they are in date order!
The first date is Saturday, July 10th, for a NYC Bridges ride. What a great way to see the city's famous bridges - truly up close! This is a ride for experienced riders, as we will have to deal with taxi cabs, busses and those famous NYC drivers! We will be leaving from Fort Lee @ 7am. If you are interested in more info, drop us a line and we'll hook you up.
The second date is Saturday, July 24th for a 100 mile ride to New Paltz, NY. This has been a perennial favorite - a great ride to a great town. We will leave from bike shop at 8 a.m., and we'll have 2 distance options for the length of the ride. It's approximately 50 miles to New Paltz, and we'll plan to have lunch (and libations, for those who are interested and of age!) at the Gilded Otter (http://www.gildedotter.com/home.htm ) when we arrive. For those who want to do a 100 mile ride, we will have a return group riding back to West Milford after lunch. We will also need some volunteer support vehicles to transport those who want only want to do the 50 mile portion of the ride. When you RSVP for this ride, please let us know which length you will be doing (50 or 100 miles), if you will need a ride back, or if you have room for any additional people/bikes for the ride back.
The third date is Saturday, August 14th, for another NYC city ride. We will enter the city via the George Washington Bridge, find our way to Central Park, then move east to Park Avenue. Park Avenue will be totally closed to traffic for a festival, so it will be a nice way to see that part of town. Eventually we will work our way back to the GWB and Fort Lee. Again, because of the challenges of city riding, we recommend this ride for experienced riders only. Our meeting time will be determined soon, so if you are interested, let us know and we'll keep you up to date.
All three rides will require a RSVP by the week before the event so we can coordinate rides, make reservations, carpool, etc. We'll send out reminders as the dates get closer - until then, check your calendars, mark the dates, and make your plans - they will be great rides!
Questions? You know the address - info@teamtowncycle.com .

Weekend rides!
Looks like one of those summer weekends where we dodge thunderstorms, but we'll try to ride anyway!
Friday - our usual Friday night Clinton Road ride! Keep an eye to the sky, but as long as we're not dealing with lightening, we'll meet at the usual place, the old Village Square Inn parking lot at 6 p.m. It's hot - bring plenty of water!
Saturday - it's the 3rd annual JORBA Bike Fest! Join our good friend and fellow club member Jeff Mergler as JORBA hosts its' 3rd annual fest! Rides, clinics, giveaways, contests, swaps, stuff for the kids, etc. - it's all there! Bring some canned goods as well to help local food pantries. All the info and schedule for the Fest can be found here - http://www2.jorba.org/index.php?title=Fest
Still a possibility of organizing something for Sunday - if we come up with anything, we'll post it on the blog and Twitter.
Coming soon - a bunch of destination ride announcements - check your inbox soon! Have a great weekend!!

First - due to the weather, tonight's ladies ride on Clinton Road will be canceled. Hopefully next week we will have better weather!
Second - tomorrow (Thursday) the weather is supposed to be great, so come join us for a mountain bike ride at Jungle Habitat! We'll meet at the gate at 5:30 - all are welcome.
Third - reminder that we have started our famous Friday night road rides on Clinton Road. Weather permitting, we'll meet at the parking lot of the old Village Square Inn on Route 23, Newfoundland at 6 p.m.
As always - pass this on - we welcome new riders! We update our calendar with any ride changes or additions, so be sure to check in there for ride opportunities. And also as always - any questions - info@teamtowncycle.com . See you out there!

Easter Bunny rides!
If it's Easter, can real spring be far away? We hope not! The weather is supposed to be amazing this weekend, so we've got a few rides for those of you who want to work off some of the chocolate bunny and jelly beans ahead of time!
- Friday, April 2. This was already announced, but here's a quick recap for those who missed the first one. It's a Friday night road ride on our fave Friday night route - Clinton Road! We'll start our regular Friday night rides in a few weeks, but in the meantime, here's a preview. We know lots of people have a day off or a half day, so let's meet at the usual place, the Village Square Inn on Route 23 in Newfoundland, at 5 p.m. We'll have an "A" and "B" group, so all levels of riders are welcome!
- Saturday, April 3. Road ride, leaving Town Cycle at 9 a.m. We'll do a moderate paced ride around Greenwood Lake, and then we'll take a poll if you want to go farther!
- Saturday, April 3. Mountain Bike ride, Waywayanda. Our ride leader is recovering from a cold, so it will be a beginner paced ride, probably a lap around the Spring Cleaning race course. Meet us at the boat launch parking lot at 11:15 a.m. If we need to cancel, we'll do it here and on Twitter tomorrow.
- Sunday, April 4. Happy Easter! Before you sit down to your big Easter ham and mashed potatoes, come join us for an Easter Bunny hunting mountain bike ride at Waywayanda. We'll meet at the boat launch parking lot at 9 a.m. It'll be a moderately paced ride, about 2 hours long.
Lots of opportunities for rides for all levels, so come on out and join us!

Friday night ride!
Now don't get too excited, this isn't the beginning of our official weekly Friday night rides just yet. Give us a few more weeks to gain a bit of daylight, then we'll get serious!
In the meantime, we know many of you will have the day off or maybe just a half day of work on Friday, so we thought we'd put together a road ride on our favorite Friday night route - Clinton Road! For this Friday, April 2nd, meet us at the usual place - the Village Square Inn parking lot on Rt. 23 in Newfoundland - at 5 p.m. Don't worry if you're a bit rusty, or even if you've never done a big group road ride. We'll set up an "A" and a "B" group to take care of everyone's needs!
So come on out, work off some of the calories you're going to have from that big chocolate Easter Bunny, and join us Friday night! Any questions, you know where to go - info@teamtowncycle.com .

Night Ride, November 3
Hey folks -
Due to life and stuff, we're changing up our night ride from Wednesday to Tuesday this week. New, different secret location! Meet us at 6 p.m. at the end of Cherry Ridge Road (off Clinton Road - access from the Warwick Tpke. side), and we'll ride for about 2 hours or so. As usual - check those lights! You don't want to be the one walking out of the woods in the pitch black - after all, the bears aren't hibernating yet!
As usual, any questions, drop us a line - info@teamtowncycle.com .

Night Ride!
OK, the infernal rain has stopped, so let's try another night ride - Wednesday, October 21. Same deal as last week - meet at Town Cycle, be ready to roll by 6:30. We wait for no one! Please, please - if you haven't gone night riding in a while, charge and test your lights before then! Don't be the person we either mock or swear at - you know, the one whose lights die 1/2 hour into the ride! A red flasher is important too, as we have a short ride on the road.
Any questions, let us know. Weather looks ok, but we'll update to our Twitter page if canceling.

Labor Day weekend rides
Woohoo - a long weekend! Plenty of time to spend with the family and still get a good ride in! Here are our plans - hope you can join us.
Friday - our usual (and probably final!) regular Clinton Road ride. Meet us at 6 p.m. at the Village Square Inn on Rt. 23 in Newfoundland. Because of the shortening daylight hours, we'll probably have to call the Friday night rides after this week, so we hope you can join us.
Sunday - we're going on a road trip! Tune up your mountain bike - we're headed to the Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, NY. We'll meet at Town Cycle (1468 Union Valley Road, West Milford) at 8:30 a.m. We can car pool or you can follow us - or meet us at Blue Mountain. Directions can be found here - http://www.wmba.org/Maps.html . It takes just over an hour to get there, and we'll plan to ride for at least 3 hours. It'll be a moderately paced ride, so all are welcome. It's a nice change of pace from our usual hants, and a great place to ride.
See - plenty of time to mow the lawn and throw back a few beers! As always, any questions, let us know. Enjoy the three day weekend!

King of the Mountain Results, and a Reminder!
Our KOM event for August 23 had a wet start. Eventually the clouds parted and gave us some sunshine to ride in. Unfortunately it was accompanied by a lot of humidity so staying dry at any point was not an option!
This week's riders were all team members or racers. We especially enjoyed the competition from our friend and Team Bulldog member Ryan Heershap who showed up and put up a good fight!
The first climb up Stonetown Road might be short, but it is VERY steep. Dave and Keith broke away at about the halfway point and fought it out with Dave coming in first, Keith second, Ryan third, BJ fourth, and Matt fifth.
Before climb number 2 (Westbrook Road), Kevin caught up and we all paced up to the start. From the start of the climb. Dave, Keith, BJ, and Ryan set a high pace up the first pitch. Dave, Ryan, and Keith pulled away. BJ dropped but fought hard to prevent too big of a gap between himself and Matt. By the time the riders made it to the Coffee House the finishing order was Dave, Keith, Ryan, BJ, Matt, and Kevin.
The final climb up Otterhole Road was a good one. At the first pitch it was a repeat of the Westbrook climb with the three leaders opening up a gap on the rear guard. BJ was able to bridge and attack on the last pitch but was quickly pulled in by Dave and Keith. Ryan flatted on the attack, which left third place for BJ. The points on the final climb were therefore awarded to Dave, Keith, and BJ.
Great job to all who braved the elements. and a huge thank you to our favorite bike shop owner Mike from Town Cycle for providing the prizes to the winner of each climb.
The points for the day look like this...
Dave Kahl - 9
Keith Halla - 6
BJ Kisch - 3
(Ryan was not awarded points due to non membership, but it was agreed by the group he would be eligible for premiums)
The next and final KOM will be next Sunday, August 30. We will ride the original route, rain or shine. Come on out and take a wack at these hills - the payoff is worth every bit of it. There will also be some special "Super Premiums" for everyone who shows!
