Road Trip Photos, and a Pump Track Update

As part of a series of "catching up" posts, here's some photos from our road trip to Alexandria, and some updates!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first weekend in June, a few of our TTC members took a road trip out to Alexandria to check out their pump track. The Alexandria pump track is the first (and currently only) municipal pump track in NJ, and we wanted to see for ourselves how it was done!

More of our photos of the day can be found here - and thanks to everyone who came out, and especially to Bob Adase, who came out and showed us the ropes, and to Jeff Mergler, for putting the day together!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now, an update on our own West Milford pump track prospects! TTC and JORBA members Jeff Mergler, Dave Van Wart, and Jay Huggins made a presentation to the West Milford Town Council on June 15 with regards to building a pump track here in West Milford. The Town Council, as well as the Recreation Commission, the Economic Advisory committee, and the Environmental Commission are all been extremely supportive of the idea. There has been agreement on the site (the Farrell Field complex), and plans are moving forward! For an article on the meeting, please read this.

What does this mean for us? Well, there are still details to be worked out, but it is looking more and more promising that come fall, we will be building a pump track here in West Milford! We will keep you up to date on developments, but in the meantime - thank you for all of your support! Lots of you voted in polls, and talked to people within the town voicing your support, and we really appreciate your efforts!

What's happening this weekend?

Well, we're glad you asked! Here's what we've got lined up!
  • Friday night, June 3 - our standing invitation to one and all to our Friday night road ride on Clinton Road. As usual, we'll meet at the old Village Square Inn parking lot on Rt. 23 north in Newfoundland. All levels and abilities welcome!
  • Don't forget the Giant Demo day up at Stewart today! 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - more details here!
  • Saturday, June 4 - it's field trip day! Join us as we head to the Alexandria Pump Track to see the only municipal pump track in NJ. We want to see how they do it, so when the day comes for us to build ours in West Milford, we'll know all the tricks! We'll plan to arrive there around 9 a.m. - if you are interested in carpooling or caravaning, let us know! Bring your bike (almost anything but a road bike or cyclocross bike will do - mountain bike, BMX bike, gears, no gears - it's all good!) and helmet and check it out!
  • Saturday, June 4 - the Kahl's will be hosting an evening of stretching and pasta dinner - especially great for anyone who is doing the Bearscat! Please bring a yoga mat and plenty of water - we'll gather at 4:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Heather and let her know if you can make it. We'd love to see you there!
  • Sunday, June 5 - the Bearscat 50 is on! If you can, come cheer all of the extremely brave TTC members who are riding this fantastic endurance race at Waywayanda!
So there's the 411 - hopefully something there to interest everyone. Check in with us tomorrow - we'll have some more trip reveals and fun for all!

Kit news, and a field trip

Great news - the re-order came in for our kits! If you had placed an order for some of our stylish Team Town Cycle merchandise, it is at Town Cycle now, bagged and ready for pick-up! If you didn't place an order, and now are mired in remorse - don't despair! We do have some extra stock! Drop us a line at info@teamtowncycle.com with what you are looking for, and we'll try to hook you up with the most stylish riding gear around! Wear the plaid proudly!

But wait - there's more! As part of our effort to whip up some enthusiasm and  win approval for the construction of a pump track in West Milford, we're planning a field trip to the only other municipal pump track in NJ. On June 4 (rain date June 11), several Team Town Cycle members will take a trip down to the Alexandria Pump Track to see what all the excitement is about! You don't need a super special bike to ride at a pump track - bring what you've got, grab your helmet, and come check it out! If you have a BMX bike, great - if not, your mountain bike or whatever you have with knobby tires will work! Bring your kids, friends, neighbors, etc. Our plan is to arrive at the track around 9 a.m., and spend a few hours riding and talking to the builders of the track. We'd love to have you join us, and are willing to help coordinate a caravan and/or carpooling for anyone interested. As always, drop us a line with any questions or concerns!

Check back tomorrow - we've got news about a new beginners ride!
