Forget Irene - Labor Day weekend is coming!

We hope Irene didn't wreak too much havoc on your lives, and that you all made it through relatively unscathed. No word yet on when the state parks will re-open - we'll keep you updated. 

In the meantime, a ride for you to look forward to! Next weekend is Labor Day weekend - let's celebrate the 3 day weekend! We’re planning a Hudson Valley ride for Sunday Sept 4^th.  Route will be Newburgh area to Mid-Hudson Bridge. About 40 miles, hilly, but very scenic.We'll plan an early start (9am?), but details will follow in the next day or so.

So clean up those branches this week and join us for a great road ride! 

Road Trip Photos, and a Pump Track Update

As part of a series of "catching up" posts, here's some photos from our road trip to Alexandria, and some updates!

The first weekend in June, a few of our TTC members took a road trip out to Alexandria to check out their pump track. The Alexandria pump track is the first (and currently only) municipal pump track in NJ, and we wanted to see for ourselves how it was done!

And now, an update on our own West Milford pump track prospects! TTC and JORBA members Jeff Mergler, Dave Van Wart, and Jay Huggins made a presentation to the West Milford Town Council on June 15 with regards to building a pump track here in West Milford. The Town Council, as well as the Recreation Commission, the Economic Advisory committee, and the Environmental Commission are all been extremely supportive of the idea. There has been agreement on the site (the Farrell Field complex), and plans are moving forward! For an article on the meeting, please read this. 

What does this mean for us? Well, there are still details to be worked out, but it is looking more and more promising that come fall, we will be building a pump track here in West Milford! We will keep you up to date on developments, but in the meantime - thank you for all of your support! Lots of you voted in polls, and talked to people within the town voicing your support, and we really appreciate your efforts! 

Weekend riding

Well, if it ever stops raining, we'll head out for a few rides this weekend! 


First up, our Friday night party on Clinton Road! Same time, same place - 6 p.m., old Village Square Inn parking lot, Rt. 23, Newfoundland. Great place to practice your paceline and group riding!


Saturday, June 25, we will do a pre-ride of the race course at Lewis Morris. Meet us at 10 a.m. at the ballfield by the beach, and we'll do a lap or two of the course!


On Sunday, June 26, the 3rd H2H race of the season takes place at Lewis Morris Park in Morristown, NJ. If you are just starting out mountain bike racing, this is a good place to start! Get more info at BikeReg, and good luck to all of our TTC racers out there!


If road riding is more your style, join us for a NYC road ride on Sunday, June 26th. We'll meet at 9:30 a.m. at KC's Bagels on Route 23 South in Pompton Plains. We'll grab a bagel, talk about our route, and check out the sites in NYC! RSVP ASAP!

Need to get back on your bike? We've got just the place ...

Maybe you're as tired of the snow as we are. Maybe you can't stand one more session on the rollers. Maybe trying to share the road with the cars and the snow banks and the salt and the grit has pushed you over the edge. 

Or maybe you just want to try something new....

Well, have we got the place for you! Last month, a few members of Team Town Cycle drove out to Cleveland to check out the famous Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park...and almost as soon as they got there, they started planning their return trip! We'd show you some pictures of them while they were there - but they were too busy checking out the indoor XC trail, the teeter totters, the foam pit, the beginner, sport and expert rooms, and the pump track to take any pictures! So here are a few videos to give you the idea ... 

Predictably, they can't wait until next year to try the place out again. So we're gathering a group and heading out to Cleveland again the last weekend of February - February 25-27, to be exact. Ray's MTB has a great deal with the local Holiday Inn (see the Ray's website for the link- you must use their link or promo code for discount) for about $70 a night - and they let you bring your bikes inside! There's great (and cheap!) food available locally, you can have pizza delivered right to the park, or bring your cooler and your PB&J sandwiches - Ray's has picnic tables and wi-fi! Bring your own bike or rent one there for reasonable rates. Spectators are free - kids 12 and under  ride for 1/2 price! 

To be clear - everyone is on their own here in terms of hotel reservations, etc. There's all kinds of information on the Ray's website. The drive was about 6 1/2 - 7 hours from West Milford (to be fair, it was snowing on the way out!). If you've been looking for an excuse to go check Ray's out, or thought no one else would be interested in going - you would be wrong! If you have any questions about how it works, what you should bring, etc., let us know. We'll hook you up with some answers from one of our "experts"!

Details for Trip to Kingdom Trails, VT

As promised - here are some additional details!

We are planning a Team Town Cycle trip for the club to go to Northeast Kingdom, East Burke Vt. The dates are October 7 – 11^th (Columbus Day weekend). Anyone who is interested would need to make lodging arrangements on their own. If you need help in this area, you can contact Laurie from Burke Mill Properties at 802-626-1161.
