Kids MTB Skills ride, and Clinton Road rides are back!

  • Next Saturday, April 25, Kathi Krause of Dirt, Rock and Root Training will be holding a free middle school/high school kids fundamentals ride after the Juniors in the Jungle MS/HS race at Jungle Habitat. Your child does NOT have to have raced to join in! Meet at the race registration area at 11:30 a.m., and Kathi, who is committed to helping MTB'ers of all ages and ability levels gain confidence and skills, will lead them on an approximately 1 hour ride through Jungle Habitat. A great chance for kids to ride with other kids!
  • You've been asking - no, begging for them - and they're back! The first Friday Night Clinton Road ride for 2015 will be on Friday, May 1. We are once again so fortunate to be able to park at the United Methodist Church, 65 LaRue Road, Newfoundland, NJ. Please be considerate of our hosts and park closest to the road, and away from the buildings! We'll be wheels down at 6 p.m. This ride is a great way to learn about road riding in a group, pace line basics, and just unwind from a long week! Ladies Wednesday night Clinton Road rides will start on May 6.
So excited that the weather has finally come to its' senses - let's get out and ride!

Any questions? info@teamtowncycle.com, of course!

2 MTB rides in the queue!

Yes, we think it might finally be true!!! Spring is finally here - or at least it's finally trying to be spring! Whatever it is, it's not snowing, so we'll take it. Got a few mountain bike rides for those who are interested.

1). TTC member Tom Bowmaster is offering up a MTB ride at Lewis Morris on Sunday, April 12 - with homemade pizza afterwards. How do you pass that up? Meet at Tom's house - 55 Fairmount Ave., Morristown, at 2:30, and he'll take you on a nice tour of Lewis Morris, and then back to his place for homemade pizza. Please RSVP to Tom directly , or you can call him at 973-539-0420, to let him know that you are coming, so he can make enough pizza dough for everyone!

2). Looking for somewhere new to ride? Join us for an after work MTB ride at Mahlon on Wednesday, April 15. Park at the Saffon's Pond lot, and we'll get you acquainted with this North Jersey park. Wheels down at 6 p.m. SHARP - we'll ride for 1.5 hours, (or a few minutes more, if the sun permits) - moderate pace, no drop.

More rides to come - stay tuned!

Save these April dates!

The snow is finally melted, and it's time to ramp things up around here!

  • Friday, April 11 - it's back, and better than ever! The 2014 debut of Friday Night Clinton Road rides! For those of you unfamiliar with our Friday night rides, it's a great way to learn to ride with a group, learn about pacelines, and generally unwind from a long week and start the weekend out on a high note! All levels and abilities welcome - we'll split into groups, and make sure no one is left behind! Rain will cancel, so stay tuned to our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

We're headed south! Mountain biking at Allaire State Park. Sunday, March 2

Before our next round of snow in this soul sucking winter, we're headed south to Allaire State Park to ride our mountain bikes! If you've never been, it's a great place to ride for all levels - there's something there for everyone, and terrain unlike our usual northern rock gardens.

We'll meet at the parking lot on Hospital Road at 9:30, and ride for a few hours. It's approximate 1.5 hours from West Milford, so plan accordingly. Conditions will be cold, but trail reports say that there is almost no snow there, and with the ground mostly frozen, it should make for some good riding - a nice change from the road bike and the trainer!

As always, any questions - email us at info@teamtowncycle.com.

Two weekend rides for you!

Great fall weekend coming up - 2 rides for you to enjoy the great weather!
  • Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. BJ will be leading a beginner cyclocross ride over at Tourne Park in Denville. Meet at the River Access parking lot on Old Denville Road/Norris Road, and BJ will walk you through the basics of cross. You don't need to plan on racing, or even have a cross bike - it's great workout, excellent skill building and a great way to learn about this increasingly popular part of the cycling world.
  • Sunday, Sept. 22, Norm and Sherri will lead two mountain bike rides at Jonathan’s Woods and Wildcat in Rockaway. Two rides, one slow and steady and the other faster paced and designed to hit all the fun technical stuff. After the rides are over, everyone will meet up for a pot luck BBQ at their house. Please bring your favorite dish (apps, sides, or dessert) to share.  Meet at the Albrechts house at 10am.  (49A Meriden Road, Rockaway). For directions, etc. please call Norm - 973.879.0820.

Weekend rides

  • Friday Night Ride - Clinton Road - 5:45 p.m. at the old Village Square Inn parking lot on Route 23 in Newfoundland - be there! Not sure how many more of these there will be this season, so make sure you don't miss out!!!
  • Saturday, September 7,  TTC's own Vicki and James will be leading a mountain bike ride up at Stewart in Newburgh. You can either meet them at the first rest stop (Sloatsburg) on the NYS Thruway at 10 a.m., or meet them at Stewart at 11 a.m. (use 400 Ridge Road, Rock Tavern, NY 12575). They plan on doing the 10 mile race loop from the Stewart Six Pack at least once (your mileage may vary!). There are no facilities there, so please bring plenty of snacks and water, etc. This would probably be classified as an intermediate ride - not a lot of climbing, but  it will have a good amount of distance to it. Weather looks great for the weekend - this should be a fun ride!
  • Also on Saturday, Sept. 7 - TTC's BJ will be leading a cyclocross basic skills session at the Tourne Park in Denville (parking in the small lot on Old Denville/Norris Rd off of Powerville Road- the river access lot) at 11:30 a.m. He'll focus on skills such as barriers, shoulder carries and running starts, etc. - all the things that make a good cyclocross racer. Beginners are always welcome - and if you don't have a CX bike, bring your mountain bike!
  • The New Paltz ride is rescheduled!!!! Thanks to Tom G. and Jeff S. for stepping up, the ride will now take place on Saturday, September 14. Meet at Town Cycle at 9 a.m. For those of you who only want to ride one way, you'll need to arrange your own way home (but please let us know if you have any extra space!) Please RSVP by Thursday, September 12 so we can make lunch reservations at the Gilded Otter. Rain will cancel. This ride is a TTC annual tradition, and the weather should be great for a mid-September ride through the Hudson Valley to the Shawangunks.
Lots of dates for your calendar - drop us a line at info@teamtowncycle.com with any questions!

Thanksgiving plans and more!

  • Yep - it's on! Our annual Thanksgiving day mountain bike ride at Waywayanda! The park will be open, and there are enough trails open to make a nice loop or two. Let's meet at the boat launch parking lot between 8 and 8:30 - we'll form groups and try to be rolling shortly after 8:30 a.m. Lots of people have different time tables for the day - there's bound to be a group with the same time constraints as you! Norm and Sherri will host a night mountain bike ride from their place - 49 A Meridan Road, Rockaway. Meet up at 6 p.m. - the plan is hawk watch and back  via quiet paved and dirt roads, not technical, but some good climbing. Afterwards, stay for pizza, goodies, etc. - and please bring something, if you are so inspired - salad, etc. RSVP to Sherri at salbrecht1@verizon.net or text her at 973-727-2660.
  • Save this date for one of our famous NYC Reindeer rides! Sunday, December 16, meeting at KC's Bagels on Route 23 in Pompton Plains at 8:30 a.m. If you haven't been on one of our reindeer rides before, and need antlers, please RSVP to Heather by 12/10 to get your very own antlers!
