Due to some technical difficulties, we're behind on a few items - like the results of the second Team Town Cycle KOM event of the season! Without further delay, here it is ....
After a late start, the competition took off
on the first climb. One of our sponsors, Keith Hala of The
Hidden Valley Club, hooked on to Dave Kahl’s wheel and kept the pace high for Dave, challenging him for the top spot on the first climb. Mike Hoek, after dropping BJ Kisch like a hot rock, took third behind Dave and Keith. The Club competition was strong with Gerard Hawkins sprinting to the line to take
KOM points from Chris Donohue. The women had a strong showing with Karen B. taking the first climb with a huge gap over Angela Barrett and Heather Kahl.
After a detour through the beautiful farmlands of New York State the climbing started again on the slopes of Mt. Peter. Dave got off to a delayed start but quickly made up time on Mike and BJ. Keith was another story. After a hard push Dave just didn't have enough mountain left to beat Keith to the top. This one went to the sponsor. Not to be beaten again, Chris opened up a gap over Gerard and never looked back. Angela, defending her current points lead, followed Chris' tactic and put a commanding gap between herself and second place Karen. Heather came in a close third on Mt Peter.
The decent down into Greenwood Lake was harrowing for a few of the riders. BJ lost a bottle in the first turn creating a spinning hazard for the chasers to dodge. And just to keep Heather on her toes a serious case of speed wobbles crept up on her while getting near 40 MPH. She was able to maintain control and steady her bike enough to roll into town for a water stop.
The third and final climb reminded us all that it’s never over until it’s over. When it was all finally over the finishing order looked like this: Dave, Keith and Mike for the team riders. Chris overtook Gerard on the climb and had his sights set on Mike, but ran out of time to reel him in. For the ladies, it was Heather, Karen and then Angela.
So the points for the day look like this:
Club Riders
Gerard = 7
Chris = 5

Karen = 7
Angela = 6
Heather = 5
Racers
Dave = 8
Keith = 7
