Kit news, and a field trip
Great news - the re-order came in for our kits! If you had placed an order for some of our stylish Team Town Cycle merchandise, it is at Town Cycle now, bagged and ready for pick-up! If you didn't place an order, and now are mired in remorse - don't despair! We do have some extra stock! Drop us a line at info@teamtowncycle.com with what you are looking for, and we'll try to hook you up with the most stylish riding gear around! Wear the plaid proudly!
But wait - there's more! As part of our effort to whip up some enthusiasm and win approval for the construction of a pump track in West Milford, we're planning a field trip to the only other municipal pump track in NJ. On June 4 (rain date June 11), several Team Town Cycle members will take a trip down to the Alexandria Pump Track to see what all the excitement is about! You don't need a super special bike to ride at a pump track - bring what you've got, grab your helmet, and come check it out! If you have a BMX bike, great - if not, your mountain bike or whatever you have with knobby tires will work! Bring your kids, friends, neighbors, etc. Our plan is to arrive at the track around 9 a.m., and spend a few hours riding and talking to the builders of the track. We'd love to have you join us, and are willing to help coordinate a caravan and/or carpooling for anyone interested. As always, drop us a line with any questions or concerns!
Check back tomorrow - we've got news about a new beginners ride!

Mid-week fun!
- Reminder - tonight is an I Dig Tuesday trail work night at Jungle Habitat! Don't forget, if you are a TTC racer, PayDirt is part of your racers agreement! Doing your PayDirt at Jungle Habitat is an easy and convenient way to get those hours in! Meet us at 6 p.m. at the JH gate - bring your gloves, bug spray and water!
- Wednesday night is Ladies Night on Clinton Road! And this week, we have a special treat. Larry Towner from Team Town Cycle sponsor ProPower Coaching will be there this Wednesday to provide a bike fit analysis to anyone interested. He will be at the parking lot at 5:30 p.m. with a stationary trainer. He will put your bike on the trainer and do a quick check for saddle height and fore/aft adjustment, and then make any necessary adjustments. Bike fit can be a complicated process but with these quick adjustments you can get very close to your optimum position on the bike. This will result in greater power and better comfort.
- Wednesday night we will also have a moderate pace, no drop mountain bike ride at Jungle Habitat. Please be wheels down at the JH gate at 6 p.m. so we can get a good 2 hour ride in before dark!
Hope to see you out there!
Catching up
It's been so busy, we haven't had time to talk about a few events that have been happening here. So let's catch up!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, the 3rd annual Juniors in the Jungle bike race was even more successful than the two previous races, if that is possible! We had 95 racers participate in classes from kindergarten through high school, and they all did a great job! From experienced racers to first timers, a good time was had by all.
For more pictures of our day, check the link on our sidebar to the left! Finish results will be on the sidebar shortly as well.
Thanks to everyone who came out and raced, cheered, and showed our young racers such great support. A big part of our club's mission is to promote youth cycling, and the great turnout showed that the message is getting out there!
The biggest thanks goes to all of our volunteers and sponsors. Town Cycle, Trek, and Giant Bicycles - thanks for all you do to help us put on this event every year! Also much thanks for the West Milford First Aid Squad and the New Jersey Mountain Bike Patrol. We're always so very grateful for your support of all our events - and for the band-aids! And of course - we couldn't do it without our Team Town Cycle volunteers. Whether you were there for two hours or the whole day, we truly appreciate all the time you donate to us. This event happens because people like you care about the future of cycling, and we couldn't imagine pulling off an event like this without your help!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of the kids, Team Town Cycle represented very well the Team Bulldog Kids Race and New Jersey MS/HS State Championships at Kittatinny State Park in Andover on May 7. Austin, Klae, Titus, Delia, Ethan, Dillon, Justin, and all of the TTC kids did a great job there and made us all proud. Way to go juniors!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few of the TTC ladies recently took a road trip to Vermont for some RR and R - Road Riding and Relaxing!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, that's some of the excitement taking place lately here at TTC! Stay tuned later today for news about kits and rides and field trips - oh my!

Help us bring more cycling to West Milford!
For the last few months, Team Town Cycle member and JORBA Executive Director Jeff Mergler has been working hard on a proposal to bring a pump track to West Milford. JORBA has already built NJ's first public pump track in Alexandria - watch the great video!
Having a pump track in West Milford would be a great gift to the kids (and adults!) in West Milford, as well as a great opportunity to bring more people and money in to local businesses in West Milford.
Jeff, along with TTC members Jay Huggins and David Van Wart have met with various West Milford Township committees and personnel over the last few months - the Recreation Advisory Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the Environment Commission, as well as the head of the township Recreation department to discuss possible locations and support for a project in West Milford.
The next steps will include talking to the West Milford town council - and that's where you come in! The West Milford Economic Development Committee has put a poll online to gauge interest in such a project. There are two bicycling related questions on the poll, which will take you all of 30 seconds to answer! Jeff Mergler and many of us in the cycling community endorse a hearty "YES" answer to both poll questions, and we hope you can join us! We'd like to collect as many "YES" votes as possible to show the council how much public support a project like this can garner. Please take a moment to answer the poll yourself, and please pass it along to anyone else who you think would support the development of these two cycling projects in West Milford.
All of us thank you for your time - and if you have any questions about the proposal, drop us a line at info@teamtowncycle.com, and we'll do our best to get them answered for you!

Weekend wrap up, and the week ahead
Well, it was a whirlwind weekend for Team Town Cycle! We started off with our usual Friday night fun on Clinton Road, and it only got better from there!
We'll have more details and photos coming up, but we can say without reservation that the 3rd Annual Juniors in the Jungle Kids race was a complete success! Just look at Ethan and Austin's faces - they say it all! Stay tuned for more!
We'll have more details and photos coming up, but we can say without reservation that the 3rd Annual Juniors in the Jungle Kids race was a complete success! Just look at Ethan and Austin's faces - they say it all! Stay tuned for more!
Sunday morning, our great group of TTC volunteers did their Clinton Road clean up. Among the "treasures" they found on the 2.4 mile stretch of road they cleaned - 37 big black bags of bottles, cans, fast food wrappers, plastic bags and general stuff, 1 car battery, 1 car cylinder head, a refrigeration compressor, 1 Jeep Cherokee front bumper, motorcycle parts and a ghost costume!
And a stair stepper!
Team Town Cycle racers also held court Sunday at Waywayanda at the first Campmor H2H race of the season, showing off the plaid quite well! Wins by team members Norman Marin (battling back from injury - way to go Norman!), David Kahl and Dillon Van Wart, and podium finishes by Adam Vandenbos, and Jason Grossi, as well as great showings by Karen Bouloucon, Rich Vandenbos, Dave Van Wart, Amy McCann, Matt Kuchavik, Chris Byrnes and Rick Bauer made it an awesome showing for TTC!
And check out the home page for the Colts Neck Classic - who's that but our own BJ Kisch at the front! Nice going - way to represent!
So, with that awesome weekend behind us, here's what's up for the week ahead.
- Don't forget, I Dig Tuesdays are going on at Jungle Habitat. Meet us at 6 p.m. at the gate - bring gloves, water, bug spray. Get your PayDirt hours in now!
- Wednesday is Ladies Night on Clinton Road. Be ready to ride at 6 p.m. at the old Village Square Inn parking lot on Route 23 in Newfoundland. In case of rain, please RSVP to Heather for yoga and potluck dinner at her house. Bring your yoga mat and let her know what you can contribute to dinner!
- Friday night ride - start time change! We've finally gotten enough light to move the start time back to 6 p.m. Be ready to ride at 6 p.m. at the old Village Square Inn parking lot on Route 23 in Newfoundland. If you are not use to group rides, this is a great way to get some experience!
- Saturday, May 7 - if your young cyclist wants to do some more racing, Team Bulldog is holding their annual Kids race at Kittatinny State Park. They always put on a great race, and Kittatinny is a great venue for everyone!
- Saturday, May 7, we'll go for a mountain bike ride at Waywayanda. This is a great prep and intro ride for anyone racing the Bearscat 50, but of course anyone is welcome! It'll be an intermediate paced ride (Cat.2/3), and somewhere from 2-3 hours long. We'll meet at the boat launch at 10:30 a.m.
- Sunday - do something nice for the mom's in your life!
A week with a little something for everyone! As always, let us know if need more information about any of our events - info@teamtowncycle.com.
