Late notice for a night hike tonight!

Sorry for the late notice, but we're putting together a group to go on a night hike tonight! Bring snow shoes or crampons, and meet us at the Town Cycle at 6 p.m. - we'll probably hit Jungle Habitat. Dress warm, of course, and bring a good headlight or flashlight.

If you need to borrow equipment, or just want to let us know if you are coming, text Sherri at 973.727.2660 .

Thanks - and have a great weekend!

Need to get back on your bike? We've got just the place ...

Maybe you're as tired of the snow as we are. Maybe you can't stand one more session on the rollers. Maybe trying to share the road with the cars and the snow banks and the salt and the grit has pushed you over the edge.

Or maybe you just want to try something new....

Well, have we got the place for you! Last month, a few members of Team Town Cycle drove out to Cleveland to check out the famous Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park...and almost as soon as they got there, they started planning their return trip! We'd show you some pictures of them while they were there - but they were too busy checking out the indoor XC trail, the teeter totters, the foam pit, the beginner, sport and expert rooms, and the pump track to take any pictures! So here are a few videos to give you the idea ...

Predictably, they can't wait until next year to try the place out again. So we're gathering a group and heading out to Cleveland again the last weekend of February - February 25-27, to be exact. Ray's MTB has a great deal with the local Holiday Inn (see the Ray's website for the link- you must use their link or promo code for discount) for about $70 a night - and they let you bring your bikes inside! There's great (and cheap!) food available locally, you can have pizza delivered right to the park, or bring your cooler and your PB&J sandwiches - Ray's has picnic tables and wi-fi! Bring your own bike or rent one there for reasonable rates. Spectators are free - kids 12 and under  ride for 1/2 price!

To be clear - everyone is on their own here in terms of hotel reservations, etc. There's all kinds of information on the Ray's website. The drive was about 6 1/2 - 7 hours from West Milford (to be fair, it was snowing on the way out!). If you've been looking for an excuse to go check Ray's out, or thought no one else would be interested in going - you would be wrong! If you have any questions about how it works, what you should bring, etc., let us know. We'll hook you up with some answers from one of our "experts"!

Campmor H2H Series - A look back, and a look ahead!

For Team Town Cycle, it was another outstanding year for results in the Campmor H2H Series. This year's series was certainly drier than 2009 season (hallelujah!) and made for great competition. Our guys (and girls!) threw down with the best of them, and made us proud!

Finishing in the top 10 in their categories in the series:

Sean Adair - 5th Place, Cat 3, 10-14

Honorable mentions go out to Mike Moskowitz, Karen Bouloucon, Norman Marin (out mid-season with broken ankle), Kevin Bickford, Ryan Adair (NJ State Champion for Cat. 2 SS!) and Larry Towner.

In addition, Jason Grossi, Adam Vandenbos, Dillon Van Wart, David Van Wart raced all 8 races in the series, which shows a lot of dedication! Thanks to all of them for putting Team Town Cycle out there and showing how it's done!

With the weather we've been having, it's hard to imagine that we'll be out riding in woods again soon, but we will! The 2011 Campmor H2H schedule can be found here - the date for our own race is September 11, 2011, at the ever lovely Jungle Habitat! All of the promoters run great events over a wide variety of terrains - come check out some of the races! You don't need to run the whole series - just pick a place and come on out!

Tennessee Gas Pipeline work affects Jungle Habitat

Although with today's weather, it may seem like we will never get out to enjoy Jungle Habitat again, we'll be out there before you know it! So therefore, a warning from our friend Jeff Mergler about the upcoming work that will affect the Dumptruck Hill trail at JH. From Jeff -

Folks,

We've been informed by the land manager that the trail called "Dumptruck Hill" will be closed beginning on Feb 1 (yesterday) due to construction work by the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (who has a right of way and an existing gas pipeline in this location which bisects the trail).

I've spoken to the Tenn Gas Pipeline people and they have been really helpful explaining the process and they understand fully that there are trails in the area and they want to be in and out as quickly as possible with a minimum amount of disruption. Stage 1 will be widening the existing pipeline corridor while stage 2 will be to excavate, lay pipe and back-fill. The main concern is safety. They tend to lay the pipe and back-fill quickly but there will be placed where an open trench will be present and they just want to minimize the chance of a trail user injuring themselves.

Our crew leaders will monitor the process and work with our contact at TGPC and once we get word that we're in the clear we'll re-open the trail asap.

You can keep up to date with the latest here or at the JORBA site. We'll let you know as soon as we get the all clear to re-open the trail.

Thanks!
